So you have a business on Maui that you are trying to market online? Well, lets get started!
There are a few things you absolutely must have and be able to do. This is not a full list, but it is a great start for those of you who are not getting business online.
1) You must have a website.
2) Forget the “pretty” animated intros, and big graphics. Google cant read them and if Google can’t tell what your site is about, how can they recommend it to potential clients? (And no, there is really no way to “Trick” Google without potentially being banned.)
3) Update your site constantly! New fresh content is so critical. Not only does it give you more “digital hooks in the water” that people could potentially search for, it lets Google know your site is being updated, thus more relevant. Google tries to put the newest most relevant content in the hands of its users. Give Google what they want to give to your potential traffic. Oh, by the way, this is an easy step. Add a blog to your site and you can add content without the help of an expensive technician.
4) Use the keywords you would use to find your service when searching. If you are looking for a plumber on Maui, you would most likely search for “Plumber on Maui.” So why not make it easy for Google and just use the exact terms your clients use to find you.
5) Get the word out about your site. Have people who can help you link to your site, and link to the sites of people you can help (not your competitors!!)
6) Install Google Analytics and use Google Webmaster Tools. If you are not tracking what is going on with your site you may as well continue going at it blindly. These tools enable you to see what works and what doesn’t.

A Christmas tree being supported by palm trees. Pretty classic in my book.
